Any Ideas??

This year we are vowing to keep the holidays SIMPLE . I want to have the kids make home-made gifts for the grandparents and teachers instead of spending a trillion dollars on stuff. We all have so much stuff already, it's crazy. I also told the kids to expect ONE gift from mom and dad and Santa. I told my parents and will tell the other grandparents (listen up Frank and Paula:)) to only get ONE thing for the kids also. The way the economy is, it's even more reason to stick to this simplicity rule this year! So, does anyone have any fun ideas for home- made gifts??? Let's have fun getting back to basics this holiday season. Take some homemade goodies as a hostess gift, or to your hairdresser etc this year.

I think this is a great idea! I read somewhere that Jesus's actual birthday is probably on the Jewish feast of "Sukkoth" or feast of tabernacles...the day Jesus came to dwell on earth with us...which is BTW, tomorrow! Anyway, it confirmed that we in America have totally materialized this Holiday. So, we aren't going to skip Christmas or anything like that, but it is interesting, huh?! So, here are a couple of ideas of things that I have done in the past:
1. make a homemade calendar for the someone special. Pick out favorite pics from the year and let the kids help decorate each month's page. (My Nana still has hers from a few years ago...she said it helps her remember each person's birthday...I filled it out for her before I gave it to her.) Places like hobby lobby have empty wall calendars.

2. I did this for my Mom a while back. Take a Mason jar and cut out all kinds of colored strips of paper. Write on each one a different memory from your childhood or a reason she is so special to you. (Fold the strips up.) You can tell the loved one to open only one a day or whatever! My Mom will still dig that thing out every once in awhile!

3. Make some homemade note cards and wrap a ribbon around them for a gift. This is pretty cheap...just need some cardstock, envelopes, and cute embellishments. I like to print out a scripture from my computer that compliments the color of the cardstock...add some ribbon or a jewel and you are set for the cutest card ever! :)

4. Let the kids do a scrapbook for a loved one. It doesn't have to be pricey or detailed. I think a picture and a hand written note on each page as they remember each event would be special.

5. The ideas aren't up yet...but soon, I think this website will have some more ideas: flylady.net

Hope this helps get the creative juices flowing! It has gotten me excited, that is for sure! :)

Awesome Becke'!! Such GREAT ideas, we will definately try a few of them at least!! I especially love the mason jar one and the calendar! So great, I am so excited for the holidays this year, it should be so much LESS stressful, and bring us all together for some fun family time! Boy, has our society really commercialized the heck out of what is one of the most awesome days for us as humans! We should be recognizing tomorrow if that is the day that Jesus came to dwell with us on earth. I am marking my calender and the calenders We make for gifts. Thanks again!
